Best Kid-Friendly Spots on O'ahu: My Family’s Go-To Guide 🌺

As a mama of two little girls, I’m always on the hunt for fun, safe, and family-friendly spots around O‘ahu. Whether it’s beating the heat indoors, soaking up the island sunshine, or just finding a shaded playground where the kids can burn energy, these are some of our favorite places to explore together.

Indoor Adventures (aka, when it’s just too hot outside!)

  • Kid City – A fun indoor playground that lets little ones climb, slide, and run their hearts out.

  • Children’s Discovery Center – Hands-on exhibits that kids can touch, play, and learn from.

  • Keiki Kingdom – Indoor fun for toddlers and little kids, perfect for rainy days.

  • Bishop Museum – Always a favorite, and right now they’ve got an awesome new dinosaur exhibit that’s a must-see!

✨ Our parenting hack: We love using positive reinforcement with our 3-year-old. She gets a popsicle stick every time she does something good. When she collects 50 sticks, we celebrate with a big reward—usually a trip to Keiki Kingdom! It’s become a tradition in our house, and she looks forward to earning every single one.

Outdoor Playtime

  • Shaded Playgrounds – Let’s be real: in Hawai‘i, shade is gold. We’re always on the lookout for playgrounds with lots of cover so the girls can play comfortably.

  • Ko Olina Lagoons – Calm, kid-friendly waters perfect for swimming and playing. Insider tip: park at Lagoon 4 for your best chance of snagging a good parking spot!
